"Reiki" comes from two Japanese forms - "Rei" meaning "Spiritual Wisdom" or "The Higher Power." "Rei" (pronounced RAY) is present in everything. The second form, "Ki," (pronounced KHEE) is "life force energy". This is the energy that flows in and around us, as well as animals, plants, etc. Therefore, "Reiki" is most often translated to "spiritually guided life force energy."
Reiki is an all natural, complementary healing modality that helps to balance your energy centers (chakras) and fields surrounding your body (aura). Reiki can also be used outside the human body to balance energies in and around spaces.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for reducing stress and enhancing relaxation. This, in turn, promotes healing. Reiki has been shown to be effective in helping nearly any kind of illness. It also works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to help relieve side effects and stimulate recovery. Reiki is a gentle and powerful way to improve the effectiveness of other types of therapy.
Reiki uses "life force energy" to stimulate a person's energy flow. A person with low life force energy is more likely to feel stressed or become dis-eased. A person with high life force energy is more likely to feel healthy, happy and able to handle life's challenges. Because Reiki is guided by Universal consciousness, it will never do harm.
Reiki was discovered (some say re-discovered) by Dr. Mikao Usui. He developed the Reiki System and founded the original Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai organization. You may also want to read about the History of Reiki.
- Reiki does not claim to cure any diseases or other health challenges, whether it be physical, mental or emotional. You should seek the help of a professional with these issues. However, Reiki can assist with your recovery and will not interfere with other treatments.
- Reiki is not therapeutic massage. A Reiki session uses a sequence of hand positions off or lightly touching the body.
- Reiki is not a religion, although it does have a spiritual component. You can read the History of Reiki for additional information.
Is there proof that Reiki works?
Is there proof that Reiki works?
Many clinical trials have been conducted to validate the healing effects of Reiki treatments. One such study was conducted by Hartwell & Brewitt in1997. A group of chronically ill patients were given eleven, weekly, one-hour Reiki sessions. No other allopathic or complementary treatments were given during the same time. Meridian points that correlate to the spleen, adrenal glands and cervical, thoracic regions of the spine were measured. The readings showed that following Reiki, all patients experienced a reduction in pain and an increase in relaxation and mobility.

Of course, the only real proof for each individual is their own personal experience...:)
A Reiki session is different for everyone and can vary widely from person to person — you may feel elated, energetic, tired or just relaxed. Usually, a person feels a deep sense of relaxation after a Reiki session. Some may experience deep physical or spiritual cleansing. You may also experience an altered state of consciousness or other spiritual experience.
Reiki sessions are generally 45-90 minutes in length (please allow an additional 15 minutes for your first session). Your initial session includes a confidential health survey, discussion and recommendations. You lay on a massage table and are fully clothed.

How many Reiki sessions do I need?
How many Reiki sessions do I need?
The number of Reiki sessions is completely up to you. If you feel that you are receiving benefit from them, then you should consider continuing them. Initially, I recommend at least four sessions. You can have sessions once per week, every other week, once a month or any schedule you prefer. The first four sessions, done once per week or more frequently, will likely show you the best results.

Is Reiki contrary to religious beliefs?
Is Reiki contrary to religious beliefs?
Reiki is not a religious practice, although many people think it is, probably due to the specific people with whom they have had contact on the subject. However, Reiki is based on certain Buddhist principles from which it was born. Some practitioners or masters may combine it with their own belief system, but Reiki on its own is not a religious practice. Accepting Reiki is completely up to you. If you think that Reiki might be contrary to your beliefs, then simply do not accept any! If you are looking for religiously-based resources to consider Reiki, maybe the information on the Reiki links page will be helpful to you. I am sure there are other sources as well, so scour the Internet for yourself. Investigate both positive and negative commentary and make up your own mind. Ultimately, if you come to be guided to Reiki, it should be based on your own heart-felt feelings and not anyone else's opinions or fear mongering.

Do you do online Reiki training?
Do you do online Reiki training?
No. During Reiki training, you receive and give Reiki healing, thereby making it experiential. This is in 100% alignment with all other spiritual journeys. In addition, the passing of Reiki energy through an in-person attunement is an event that you will not soon forget. While distant attunements may be possible to some extent, you should be aware that they are less effective without the physical presence of a Reiki Master Teacher. Spending time with a Master Teacher also allows them to observe what you are doing and give immediate feedback. None of the original founders and developers of Reiki used distance attunements.
Are you a psychic or a medium?
Although I do study a variety of metaphysical subjects, including psychic development, I do not consider myself a trained psychic. During Reiki sessions there have often been times when people and messages have come through that have been quite accurate. One such event happened during my Master training and I will never forget it, nor will the person for whom I delivered the message. If you like, during your Reiki session, I will pass on this information to you as it emerges. If you prefer I don't, I will keep it to myself.
